Hi hi!
I'd like to first introduce why I wanted to start this blog: I think many people still have a misconception about otaku as people and the word. The first post I had written on was written to tempt the gears in some people's minds to churn and think a little harder. Otaku are people too, but what we mean when 98.97869% of the population says, "I'm an otaku" in 'murica, it means something very different than what it does in Japan.
Now, do I think I am an otaku? Well, in maybe the American sense. I'd like to think that bits of both definitions might apply to me or have applied to me. When I was a child I didn't get along well enough with people to become good friends. In the mean time I restricted all social time to chatting with myself in my head and creating scenarios where I would talk to fictional characters. And in that time I had also developed a relationship with them. Before most of you think I am crazy (though it would be a safe conclusion that I am just a wee bit touched in the head) I'd like to point out I am a high-functioning member of society. More than in the past, I talk to people (yes they are real, thank you for your concern), I work, I rent my apartment with a roommate, and am quite sociable. BUT, I still have my tastes because you never really lose the touch.
So, allow me to introduce myself: my handle is Gweynavere and I am an otaku. One of my biggest weaknesses are yoshis and I absolutely love food. So now, I am inviting you to join me on a little project to share a bit about myself, my life as an otaku and how I actually keep up with the world at times. So let's all nerd out and have some fun.
